How does one become a Hollywood screenwriter?
What’s the best way to get noticed? Is it all about who you know?

Try getting an internship in any production houses in Hollywood. Always a good place to start off with. The pay is usually very little to nothing but the big guns you’ll be brushing shoulders with are priceless.

Go to Hollywood and try to get a job on a set, submit your work to every place you can.
In the end it doesn’t matter who you know if you aren’t good because knowing someone famous won’t get you work if they don’t like your stuff.

You should really read “The Devil’s Guide to Hollywood”. It’s by the guy who wrote the screenplay for Basic Instinct, which was a huge box office success. In it, he says that while who you know is important, you should remember that Hollywood is very, very greedy. If you’re really good, they’ll want your script no matter what. The problem is getting them to see the script. Your script has to be knockout, first of all, so if they see it they will want it. This is obviously hard to predict but if you take plenty of classes and get mentored by a fairly successful or knowledgeable screenwriter, you should be on your way. Get a very, very good agent. Intern at places where you’ll meet the people who can make or break your script.
