Kinda sounds like Morgan Freeman…Which strangely adds to the plausibility of the video.

I cant help but feel when it comes to comedy alot of conventional rules can be turned upside down in terms of story structure & dialogue.

If only the knowledge to write for the screen could actually be condensed into 3:18.

That’s because they’re trying to be wordy like Pulp Fiction. But Pulp Fiction uses dialogue to enhance atmosphere, which is why it works.

It is probably the most misunderstood script ever written.

pulp fiction is an example for me of good but seemingly pointless dialog which is there for our aural pleasure. quentin made that work. but this can also be a downfall as can be seen is the many dozens of wordy indie comedies that try and be clever but fail completely.

John Wayne giving Michael Caine acting tips LOL! Thats the equivalant of Keanu Reeves giving acting tips to Tom Hanks.

this doesn’t always apply. pulp fiction for example. lots of talk about pointless bullshit, i.e. “royal with cheese”. fun conversation can be really engaging and draw an audience into their particular character.

this video is good, because it promotes not using dialouge… however,

to write good dialouge that is subtextual, or engaging, or comical, without just being about plot or circumstance…. there are alot of methods.

perhaps you could go into some of those methods.

i know some for sure, but im not the teacher.

no offence to you mr finigan, im just curious is all. You say your planning a short film for an idea youve had for years. How in this world has your many year long idea not expanded into a feature script instead of a short? short films are for those to scared to knocked out a feature – with that said, good luck to ya
