Cubby was a legend. Never a more honest, brutal writer. His books- every one of them will leave an imprint on your brain. His work has the power to sear the soul.

You think Requiem is good, check out The Room. That one will blow your mind.

Highsmith was a highly traumatized writer, was called a superb hater. She used this hate in being brutally frank.

According to her art, hate is more interesting than love, psychosis more interesting than sanity, fear more interesting than bravery, and cowardice more interesting than courage.

She’s the author of Strangers on a Train (Hitchcock) and The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Thank you for mentioning Highsmith. Now I will have to read her. Selby was the finest American writer of the last century.

Oh God – I’m crying after watching this!
I remember reading Requiem; it was the first book of his I read and it completely floored me – I finished it in two days and instantly changed my degree to literature!
(Although I switched back to journalism later!)
Humble, honest and a complete humanitarian. You learn more about what it means to love from this guy than any religious/righteous writing ever could.
Thank you Mr HSJ, from the bottom of my heart.

Selby is without a doubt one of the most searing writers of the 20th Century, second only to Patricia Highsmith and perhaps Eugene O’Neil.

I wish he knew it was all a game since 1776. Besides that, he’s virtually heroic.
