Stanley Kubrick and David Lynch. Two directors who have fully realized the artistic potential of film.

Barringer82, this work qualifies you to make movies of your own as soon as possible. I recommend you to read book Thomas Allen Nelson – “Stanley Kubrick: Inside The Artist`s Maze“, real pleasure to read, I thought my brain will explode.

even thought i agree with you slayer100..spielberg is in fact one of the greats..of course we all know he has directed most of his works towards money however most of his movies have in fact changed cinema..regardless if it is good or bad..his movies are epic memorable and historic..when it comes to jackson( i dont even want to go there cmon comparing jackson w/kubrick is like comparing angus beef with beef jerky)..but yeah, kubrick is an artist, painter of images, he is the most artistic drctor

Please do not contrict your tastes to western mainstream cinema. Try wong kar wai, park chan wook, Akira Kurosowa, Miyazaki. I do aggree that Kubrick is one of the all time greats but Spielberg and Jackson?? …please. Jacksons earlier films such as Braindead and Bad Taste have an excellent raw charm about them but that got lost along the way with big hollywood budgets and adaptations of books and remakes of films = :(

    excellent!

Kubrick’s films were very odd and sexual, but as long as he didn’t rape little girls, I think he’s all right.

actually it´s a malapropism of “Ode to Joy” of Ludwig van Beethoven´s 9th symphony ( middlepart .. where the song begins)

You should rely less on statistics my friend….

however, yes, Stanley Kubrick is in fact, the man…. he proved his greatness with “A Clockwork Orange”, the film with one of the deepest psychological depths within a Film in history

My top 3 favorite directors are
    1. Stanley Kubrick
    2. Steven Spielberg
    3. Peter Jackson

And Kubrick leads by far over Spielberg, sure, Spielberg has awesome special effects, but Kubrick was…a perfectionist. On Rotten Tomatoes, his 16 films all got 60%+ approval, which is rare. And the average /10 for each film was 9.2/10, and on Rotten Tomatoes, The Godfather was 9/10…so Stanley Kubrick, in general, is the greater than the greatest film of all time!!!
