You want to copywrite it first and foremost. This will cost you some money, but important to protect your ideas.
Then you can go about finding an agent that can get it in the producers hands. If you want you can send it out yourself, but remember, their are thousands of scripts out there. You can’t just send it to Universal Studios, you need to send it to someone specific.

If a producer likes it (after it has passed through script readers that either like it and recommend it to producers) then they may option it.

Option means, the producer has the right to shop your script around and you cannot send it to anyone else anymore. Good thing is you should get some money from this. If he/she does not sell the script to a studio within the Option time, then you have the right to shop around for other producers.

This can take years, so don’t get discouraged!

REMEMBER to have the script in correct format, otherwise, no one will even read it. Pick up a program like Final Draft that will format it for you. Worth the price if you don’t know the correct formats for scripts.

    Good luck!

Well, it depends on what you want to do. If you want to be a writer, first register your work to have the rights. Then try getting an agent. They know people. But remember that if you are a nobody with no previous credits, the script gets rewritten, so they will give the credit to another guy. But still, you’ll get paid.

Try selling it to independent filmmakers, you’ll get better response. Lots of indie companies look for scripts to produce. Big companies like Universal and those guys have their own writers already. And they wont even look at you.

You can try this site http://www.wga.org/agency/agencylist.asp#top

    Hope this is useful.

Register register register. Go to the Writers Guild website and register it there so nobody can steal it. There’s probably a fair amount of preparations and setups you have to go through to make sure your screenplay is copyrighted and your own original work. If there’s no copyright proof, the interest of anybody to read it is out the window entirely.

I just finished a screenplay and am in the same boat. I’m scarred stiff, though. I put a lot into this one… :)
