Is it legal for a teen to submit a screenplay to a production company?



If it is, would i have to get it copyrighted? And what production company would take a movie pitch from a teen? You see I’m really big on making movies, except I’m not 18 yet, but it would be sooo cool to make a movie at this age. I am interested in screenplay writing and directing, and in other things like producing and editing. My idols in the film industry include Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Quintin Tarantino and so on. Any suggestions?

    I would suggest getting a copyright and an agent and working from there.

    You can submit it, but they won’t read it. Most major companies have policies on not accepting unsolicited scripts. They won’t even look at it to ensure you can’t sue them later for “stealing your idea.”

    Through networking (or an agent, although that’s trickier), you can get the word out that you’re a screenwriter with a product to sell. Then, once someone requests to see your script, you’re in.

    That’s for the big entertainment field. You can do what a lot of people are doing now and try to break into independent film. You don’t have to be a big name, but again, networking will still be key.
