Looking at Independent Film Making?
Independent film making, also known as Indie films, are films that are produced outside of the Hollywood studio system, and therefore without taking advantage of the many different resources that the studio systems have access to.
While in many cases this will involve money, there is also access to locations, equipments and the talent, both on screen and off that is available. Despite this, there have been a growing number of film makers who have bucked the odds and made movies that have garnered critical praise and a great deal of attention.
One of the big stumbling blocks that have faced film makers in the past is the cost of film; the film that the studios use and the cameras can be very pricey and this basic stumbling block has done a great deal to keep independent film making to a very small genre.
The use of digital media, however, has changed all of this, and even special effects are being made more common and more accessible through the use of certain software programs. There is a great deal being made about the fact that film making, while still requiring a certain amount of capital, is slowing turning into an industry that is wholly more accessible.
For many people who are interested in independent film, there is a great deal of interest in telling stories that Hollywood does not feel are necessarily marketable. Movies that are made on a much smaller scale can still be very impressive, however, and far from being mere cult hits can still reach a wide and powerful audience.
Movies like Reservoir Dogs and Little Miss Sunshine are two examples of independent films making a bigger impression than it was thought that they would make, and it can be seen that a good story can pull in a lot of people. Both of these movies transcend their genres and have a great audience.
If you have a strong interest in independent film making, take a look around and see what resources are available to you!
