What are the statistics for the average American screenwriter’s annual salary?

In light of the recent strike, I am curious. The first to give a good answer and cite a reliable source gets best answer.

My Grandsons wife works for a movie
producing company and she said TV
screenwriters made less than movie screen
writers. She said that one of her friends is
a screenwriter and in 3 years he has only one
script that was used. The good part is that
he made $300,000. for that one script. She
said that writers for TV probably made any
where from $100,000 to $300,000 per yr.
