Viral Marketing Campaign Is Path To Success For Little-Known Filmmakers
Boulder, Colorado – Windward Reports, the leader in enterprise reporting software, has once again teamed up with online video pioneers Luke Barats and Joe Bereta to build upon the overwhelmingly successful Cubicle Wars viral marketing campaign. Cubicle Wars – the story of two Windward Reports customers with so much time on their hands that they spend their days “pranking” each other – was an instant hit on the Internet in 2006.
Five years ago, Barats and Bereta were recent college graduates performing improv comedy and making short videos for friends in Spokane, Washington. Their “Mother’s Day” video went viral, and shortly after that they created Cubicle Wars for Windward Reports. Barats and Bereta soon were featured on NBC Nightly News, landed a contract for a pilot television show, and negotiated for a feature film with a major studio.
“Software developers don’t typically respond to direct mail or phone pitches, so Cubicle Wars was a great way to get our company message across,” said David Thielen, founder of Windward Reports. “Our software demo downloads went up 20 percent, and Barats and Bereta got some well-deserved publicity, too. We’re proud to have played a small part in their early success.”
This time around Barats and Bereta have several major awards under their belt, including an American Advertising Federation award for creative excellence in advertising, but they haven’t changed their approach to creating online videos. Barats and Bereta wrote the script for and act in Cubicle Wars 2010, and they’re still two fun-loving guys both off screen and onscreen. The first video garnered roughly two million views in its first six weeks online, and Cubicle Wars 2010 picks up where Cubicle Wars 2006 left off.
“This has been rewarding for both our company and for Barats and Bereta,” said Lisa Harris, VP of Marketing and Sales at Windward Reports. “We expect Cubicle Wars 2010 to continue to propel us along the path of viral marketing success.”
