Do I still need to provide a release form if it’s a birthday documentary? For example, I want to make a doc about my mom just for her 75th birthday and I’ll be interviewing her friends about her. I don’t plan on selling this video, but I want to include it in my portfolio for my videography business. Do I still need to get signed release forms?

I wasn’t aware of location releases, so thank you. I’ve Googled “documentary release form” and many samples came up. There are forms that also include a line for an adult if the interviewee is under 18. I’ve seen a Discover channel crew in action and the field producer asks everybody who was in the shot to sign a form.

Do the people shown in pictures have to sign the release form even if not interviewed?
